Tension Rises in Osun State as PDP Faces Uncertainty Ahead of 2026 Governorship Election

In Osun State, ahead of the 2026 governorship election scheduled for August 8, tension has escalated with the People's Democratic Party (PDP) facing uncertainty. PDP chairman in Osun State, Victor Akand, declared that the PDP would not be listed among the parties contesting the election.

This statement was made during a media interaction in Osogbo. Akand's assertion comes amidst internal divisions within the party, including the recent controversy surrounding its primaries.

Despite this, Akand revealed that the party has begun preparations for Ademola Adelek's re-election campaign, mobilizing structures across the state. However, the PDP swiftly dismissed Akand's claim, with the party's caretaker secretary, Seyi Bamidel, labeling the statement as baseless and misleading.

Bamidel expressed confidence that the PDP would participate in the election and emphasized the party's strong support in Osun State.
