Kukah Centre Flags 15 Osun LGAs for Electoral Violence Risk

The Kukah Centre has flagged 15 local government areas in Osun State as vulnerable to electoral violence in anticipation of the August 15 governorship election. The report, presented by Asab Ndahi, highlights areas such as Osogbo and Irewole as critical risk zones.

The assessment was part of the National Peace Committee's broader peacebuilding initiative and involved collaboration with stakeholders, including the European Union and the Independent National Electoral Commission. The report indicates that these areas have been classified within critical high and moderate risk categories due to political violence and electoral offenses.

It calls for sustained stakeholder collaboration to develop strategies aimed at reducing risks and ensuring voter safety during the elections. The Kukah Centre's findings are based on data collected over the last six weeks, which tracked security incidents in Osun State, identifying critical flashpoints that require attention to prevent violence and ensure a peaceful electoral process.
