Kukah Centre Warns of Election Violence in Osun State

The Kukah Centre has identified 15 local government areas in Osun State as critical zones at high risk of election violence ahead of the governorship election scheduled for August 15. During a bilateral stakeholder engagement meeting in Osogbo, Asab Ndahi presented a report highlighting the potential flashpoints that threaten the peace of the upcoming polls.

The report emphasized the need for sustained collaboration among stakeholders to proactively prevent conflicts. The identified areas include Osogbo and Irewole, categorized as having a critical risk index.

The Kukah Centre has been monitoring security incidents over the past six weeks to inform this risk assessment. Additionally, Vicham Hajara Waziri mentioned that a training workshop was organized for 45 field observers to monitor electoral security compliance.

The Kukah Centre urged political parties and residents to reject violence and uphold democratic values to ensure a peaceful electoral process.
