Osogbo Residents Protest Poor Electricity Supply from IBEDC

Residents from 40 communities in Osogbo, Osun State, have publicly challenged claims made by the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) regarding the worsening electricity supply in their area. During a press conference held on Thursday, Dr.

Nasiru Moham, speaking on behalf of the residents, accused IBEDC of intimidation and misinformation. The residents had previously issued a seven-day ultimatum for the restoration of consistent electricity supply, which expired without any improvements.

Instead, the situation reportedly deteriorated, with residents receiving less than nine hours of electricity over the entire week. The group, represented by Sulaiman Buruji, emphasized that their protests were peaceful and conducted under police supervision.

They rejected allegations from IBEDC that claimed the protests were violent and that staff were harassed. The residents reiterated their demands for improved electricity supply and expressed their frustration over the lack of response from IBEDC, which had earlier linked the power supply issues to reduced gas supply affecting power generation nationwide.
