Adebayo Calls for Tinubu's Resignation Over EFCC Crisis

On Thursday, Prince Adewole Adebayo, the presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party, asserted that President Bola Tinubu should resign instead of Ola Olukoyede, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), regarding the freezing of Osun State Government accounts. Adebayo defended Olukoyede, stating he was fulfilling his statutory duties and accused President Tinubu of interfering with the EFCC's operations.

This statement was made during a press briefing at the SDP national secretariat in Abuja, amidst rising calls for Olukoyede's resignation after Tinubu directed the EFCC to unfreeze the accounts just days before the state’s governorship election. Adebayo emphasized that if the EFCC acted improperly, the issue should be resolved legally rather than through political means.

He criticized the President for directing an independent body and maintained that Olukoyede acted within his legal rights. Former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, Chidi Odinkalu, also called for Olukoyede’s resignation, stating that the EFCC's position became untenable after Tinubu's public intervention.
