Accord Party Demands EFCC Chair's Resignation Over Freeze

The Accord Party, led by National Chairman Chief Maxwell Mgbudem, has demanded the resignation of the EFCC chairman due to the agency's decision to freeze Osun State Government's accounts ahead of the August 15 governorship election. Mgbudem stated that if the chairman does not resign, President Bola Tinubu should remove him to restore public confidence in the EFCC.

The EFCC had ordered banks to freeze the state's accounts over an ongoing investigation, which was criticized as politically motivated and harmful to governance. The Osun State Government condemned the action as unlawful and appealed to President Tinubu for intervention.

Following this, the Presidency announced that Tinubu had ordered the unfreezing of the accounts, describing the situation as embarrassing. The Accord Party commended this decision, stating it prevented a constitutional crisis, and urged security agencies and democratic institutions to remain neutral during the election.

They also reported harassment of their members and called for the release of detained supporters.
