Adebayo Calls for Tinubu's Resignation Over EFCC Action

Adewole Adebayo, the presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has publicly called for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to resign following the freezing of the Osun State Government's account with First Bank by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). This account was frozen just days before the state's governorship election scheduled for August 15, 2026, due to detected suspicious transactions.

In response to the situation, President Tinubu directed the EFCC to vacate the court order that led to the account's freezing. While there have been calls for the resignation of EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede, Adebayo insists that the responsibility lies with President Tinubu, stating, “the buck stops” with him.

Adebayo expressed that he does not have sufficient evidence to suggest Olukoyede should resign, emphasizing the challenges faced by the EFCC as a working environment.
