Accord Party Demands Police Commissioner’s Removal in Osun

The Accord Party has called for the immediate removal of Osun State Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Gotan and the release of its detained members, citing harassment and politically motivated arrests as detrimental to the upcoming August 15 governorship election. The party claims that it is conducting a peaceful grassroots campaign but accuses the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Osun State Police Command of collaborating with thugs to undermine the electoral process.

Accord's National Chairman, Barr Maxwell Mgbudem, stated that approximately 100 of its leaders and supporters have been arrested, with some taken to Abuja. The party condemned the police's actions, which included invading the homes of six commissioners and the Secretary to the State Government, describing these operations as oppressive and lacking professionalism.

Accord emphasized that the police have ignored previous reports of violence against its members, indicating a partisan approach to the election.
