Adeleke Campaign Demands Release of Detained Accord Members

On Wednesday, Barrister Pelumi Olajengbasi, spokesperson for the Imole Campaign Council, addressed journalists regarding the arrest of over 86 members of the Accord Party in Osun State, which he described as politically motivated and detrimental to the upcoming election's credibility. He accused the Osun State Police Command of partisanship, alleging that innocent supporters of Governor Ademola Adeleke were detained without charges and moved to facilities outside the state.

Olajengbasi stated that 36 detainees were transferred to the Nigerian Correctional Service facility in Keffi, Nasarawa State, and 14 others to the Kuje Custodial Centre in the Federal Capital Territory. He emphasized that there were no charges or allegations against the detainees and criticized the police for abandoning their constitutional duties.

He urged the Inspector-General of Police to ensure neutrality and called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene to maintain impartiality among security agencies during the election.
