SDP's Gombe Explains Poor Election Performance in Osun

Prof. Abubakar Sadiq Gombe, the National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), explained the poor performance of the party's governorship candidate, Mr. Francis Ajala, in the recent Osun state election held last Saturday. Gombe stated that a Court of Appeal judgment clearing Ajala to participate in the election was issued just a day before the poll, leading many Osun voters to believe he would not be on the ballot.

He emphasized that the SDP's disappointing results do not reflect Ajala's acceptability among the electorate but rather the late inclusion in the electoral contest. Gombe noted that the turnout of voters in Osun was significant and suggested that it serves as a warning to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure that the electoral process in 2027 boosts public confidence. In the election, Adeleke was declared the winner, defeating Bola Oyebamiji of the APC.
