SDP Demands Prosecution of Electoral Offenders in Osun

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has demanded the prosecution of electoral offenders and those who sponsored violence during the recent Osun State governorship election. Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, the National Publicity Secretary of the SDP, condemned the over-militarization of the election and praised the citizens for their significant turnout despite pre-election tensions.

Aiyenigba attributed the violence to provocative statements and hate speech from political actors, describing the killings prior to the election as a sad commentary on what should be a sacred democratic exercise. He characterized the election as largely fair and credible, commending the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for improvements in electoral logistics, particularly the real-time uploading of results.

However, he condemned the "weaponization of the poverty of the people" and called for further electoral reforms and stronger democratic institutions to enhance the electoral process.
