Accord Party Candidates Seek Tinubu's Help Against Police Intimidation

On Sunday, Accord Party candidates for the 2027 National Assembly and State House of Assembly elections in Osun State called for President Bola Tinubu's intervention against alleged police intimidation and persecution of their leaders and members. Bamidele Salam, the representative for Ede North/Ede South/Egbedore/Ejigbo Federal Constituency, stated that the situation has escalated, citing the detention of Alaba Ibrahim Popoola, the party's House of Representatives candidate for Ijesa South Federal Constituency, and law student Sodiq Olaniyan.

Salam explained that Olaniyan was arrested after challenging an APC leader's interference with the Independent National Electoral Commission's duties. He criticized the police for not disclosing the identity of the petitioner against Popoola, raising concerns about political motivations.

Salam also alleged that Senator Francis Fadahunsi has been meeting with security heads to plan the harassment of Accord Party members. He warned that if true, this poses a serious threat to democracy in Osun State, especially with the August 15 governorship election approaching.
