Imole Campaign Council Accuses EFCC of Election Interference

The Imole Campaign Council (TICC) has accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of using its anti-corruption powers to influence the upcoming governorship election in Osun State. This accusation follows reports of the EFCC freezing the state government’s accounts.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Mr. Bamidele Salam, Chairman of the Media and Publicity Committee of TICC, described the freezing of accounts as an abuse of authority aimed at undermining the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking re-election. The council expressed concerns about the timing of this action, occurring just days before the election, suggesting it reflects political interference rather than a legitimate anti-corruption effort.

TICC argued that this restriction on the state’s access to funds could hinder governance, affecting salaries, pensions, infrastructure projects, and healthcare services. They urged the EFCC to reverse its decision and maintain neutrality to allow the citizens of Osun to freely choose their next governor.
