INEC Promises Media Cooperation for Osun Elections

On August 15, the governorship election in Osun State is set to take place, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured media practitioners of its full cooperation. Mr.

Oluwatoyin Babalola, the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Osun State, emphasized that the upcoming election will be credible, free, inclusive, and transparent. During a courtesy visit to the Osun Online Publish Association (OOPA) at the INEC state office in Osogbo, Babalola addressed concerns regarding media misinformation and disinformation, asserting that the media plays a crucial role in informing the public accurately.

He urged media practitioners to focus on voter education and to report accurately on electoral matters. Babalola also warned that tampering with election results could lead to severe penalties, including jail terms.

He encouraged media organizations to register and obtain accreditation to operate without restrictions during the election period. Abioy Lawrenc, the chairman of OOPA, welcomed the INEC's commitment to working with media practitioners to ensure credible elections.
