NLC Protests for Peaceful Osun Governorship Election

On Monday, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Osun State organized a peaceful protest in Osogbo, advocating for a free, fair, and peaceful governorship election scheduled for August 15. The protest involved workers and pensioners who expressed concerns over political violence and intimidation in the state.

NLC Chairman Comrade Christopher Arapasopo described the event as a “mini congress” aimed at informing the public about the political climate. He emphasized the responsibility of security agencies to protect citizens regardless of political affiliation.

Arapasopo also addressed the controversy surrounding state-approved palliatives for workers and pensioners, clarifying that the initiative was not intended as voter inducement. He explained that the NLC had requested palliatives from Governor Ademola Adeleke on April 8 to alleviate economic hardships, initially asking for N20,000 but settling for N10,000 after negotiations.

He urged President Bola Tinubu to ensure a violence-free election and affirmed the right of citizens to vote freely.
