Civil Society Coalition Warns Against Violence in Osun Poll

The Coalition of Civil Society Organisations for Good Governance, represented by Comrade Chief Declan Ogujionu Ihekaire, has alleged a plot to incite violence in Osun State prior to the August 15 governorship election. The coalition claims to have received credible intelligence suggesting that politically motivated violence is being orchestrated to justify declaring a state of emergency, which would lead to the removal of Governor Ademola Adeleke.

Ihekaire condemned this alleged anti-democratic agenda, asserting that Governor Adeleke was elected through a legitimate democratic process. The coalition accused the Osun State Police Command of partisanship and failing to address recent violent incidents involving political thugs.

They called for neutrality from security agencies and urged the Federal Government to prevent actions that could lead to a constitutional crisis. The coalition also appealed to the international community to monitor the situation and warned against any emergency declaration, which they view as a threat to democracy.
