Osun Stakeholders Commit to Peaceful Elections Ahead

Stakeholders in Osun State convened a peace and security summit in Osogbo to reaffirm their commitment to a peaceful electoral process for the upcoming governorship election scheduled for August 15. Governor Ademola Adeleke represented the state at the summit, emphasizing the need for political actors to uphold the rule of law and democratic values.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, and other officials assured that the commission is determined to ensure a free and fair election. Oluwatoyin Babalola from INEC highlighted the importance of collaboration among stakeholders to ensure a credible electoral process.

Bukola Idowu from KDI reported 56 election-related violent incidents in Osun, urging residents to reject violence and embrace dialogue. The summit also addressed the deployment of security agencies and the need for political parties to conduct their activities with decorum, warning against actions that could disrupt the electoral process.
