Osun APC and Labor Unions Clash Over Protest Claims

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Joint Labour Movement are at odds over allegations of a planned violent protest. The APC, represented by Kola Olabisi, accused the labor unions of plotting a violent demonstration to support the state government amid local government allocation disputes.

The APC's statement cautioned the labor movement against actions that could breach public peace, referencing a Supreme Court judgment on local government autonomy. In response, labor leaders including Christoph Arapasopo, Abimbola Fasasi, and Lekan Adediran denied any intention to engage in violence during their planned peaceful picketing of the United Bank for Africa (UBA).

They described the APC's claims as misleading and an attempt to intimidate workers. The ongoing conflict is exacerbated by a broader crisis involving local government chairmen, including Remi Abba, who were killed in clashes related to political control in February 2025.
