Police Restrict Movement, Ban Amotekun for Osun Election

Ahead of the gubernatorial election in Osun State scheduled for August 15, 2026, the Nigeria Police Force announced a restriction of movement across the state starting from 12:00 midnight on August 14, 2026, until 6:00 p.m. on election day. This information was conveyed in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu.

The public is urged to comply with the movement restriction and cooperate with security personnel deployed throughout the state. The statement also reiterated the prohibition of Amotekun and other non-state security actors from participating in election-related security operations.

It emphasized that only security agencies recognized under the Constitution and laws of Nigeria are authorized to perform security duties alongside the Nigeria Police Force during the election. Non-state security groups are directed to refrain from any activities that could intimidate voters or disrupt the electoral process.
