Nigerian Police Enforce Movement Ban for Gombe Election

The Nigerian Police Force has implemented a movement restriction in Gombe ahead of the by-election scheduled for September 19, 2026. The restriction will be in effect from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm.

This decision is part of a comprehensive security arrangement developed in collaboration with the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) to ensure a peaceful and violence-free electoral process. DSP Buhari Abdullahi, the Police Public Relations Officer, stated that CP Umar Ahmed Chuso has ordered the deployment of police personnel and operational assets to INEC offices, polling units, collation centers, and other strategic locations within the affected local government areas.

Only statutory security agencies authorized under ICCES will provide security during the election, while state-owned security outfits and private security guards are prohibited from participating. The police also warned against the circulation of fake news and political thuggery, urging residents to report suspicious activities.
