Police Enforce 42-Hour Movement Restriction for Osun Polls

The Nigeria Police Force has implemented a 42-hour restriction of movement in Osun State, commencing at 12:00 midnight on Friday, August 14, 2026, and concluding at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2026. This measure aims to facilitate a peaceful and orderly gubernatorial election.

The public is urged to comply with this restriction, with only specifically exempted individuals allowed to move during this period; however, the police did not specify who qualifies for these exemptions. CSP Anietie Iniedu, the Force Public Relations Officer, reiterated that non-state security actors, including Amotekun, are barred from engaging in election-related security operations.

The police emphasized that only constitutionally recognized security agencies are authorized to perform security duties during the election. Political parties and stakeholders are advised to maintain peace and avoid actions that could disrupt the electoral process.

The police reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring a secure environment for all political actors and voters.
