Accord Party Petitions Tinubu Over Police Harassment

The Accord Party has formally petitioned President Bola Tinubu, Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu, and other stakeholders regarding alleged harassment, intimidation, and arrests of its members and officials by the police in the lead-up to the August 15 governorship election in Osun State. The party's National Chairman, Maxwell Mgbudem, stated that approximately 100 leaders, candidates, members, and supporters have been arrested and detained, with some reportedly transferred to Abuja.

Mgbudem accused the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, of partisanship and called for his immediate removal, asserting that his presence could jeopardize the election's credibility. The party condemned the police's inaction regarding previous complaints of attacks on its campaign activities and urged supporters to remain peaceful.

Accord called for intervention from President Tinubu, the National Security Adviser, and civil society organizations to ensure a fair electoral process and encouraged Osun indigenes to participate actively in the election.
