Accord Party Seeks EU Help Amid Osun Election Tensions

The Accord Party has formally appealed to the European Union for intervention regarding rising political tensions in Osun State, ahead of the governorship election scheduled for August 12, 2026. The letter, signed by National Chairman Maxwell Mgbudem and addressed to EU Ambassador Gautier Migot, highlights concerns over alleged attacks, arrests, and intimidation of party members.

The party referenced a viral video in which Senator Francis Fadahunsi allegedly called for the killing of Accord members, a claim he later denied, which has heightened fears among supporters. The Accord Party reported that at least 29 individuals have died and over 60 members have been arrested in connection with the political unrest.

They criticized the perceived selective involvement of federal law enforcement and regulatory bodies, citing searches and arrests of state officials and the freezing of state government bank accounts by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. The party expressed that these actions could undermine their ability to participate effectively in the electoral process.
