Gani Adams Calls for Peace Ahead of Osun Election

On Friday, Iba Gani Adams, the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland and National Coordinator of the Oodua Peoples Congress, urged politicians in Osun State to discourage violence among their supporters in light of the upcoming governorship election scheduled for August 15. Speaking during a reception in Osogbo, he emphasized the need to avoid further loss of lives, stating that power is transient and should not lead to violence.

Adams refrained from assigning blame for recent politically related killings but stressed the importance of a peaceful electoral process. He appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to ensure fairness and a level playing field for all candidates, noting that the conduct of this election would influence public perception of INEC's preparedness for the 2027 general elections.

Additionally, Adams called on the Federal Government to enhance its involvement in the Osun Osogbo Festival, advocating for cultural tourism as a means to improve Nigeria's global image.
