DIG Mohammed to Lead Security for Osun Governorship Election

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has deployed Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Ishyaku Mohammed, to Osun State to oversee security operations for the governorship election scheduled for August 15. This deployment is part of a broader security strategy involving approximately 15,000 police operatives, including conventional policemen and specialists.

The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, stated that DIG Mohammed will coordinate the police's role in the election-security arrangement and collaborate with other security agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES). The police have made arrangements to protect voters, election personnel, and materials.

Disu warned against electoral offenses such as ballot snatching and voter intimidation, emphasizing that violators would face arrest and prosecution. He reiterated the ban on armed escorts for political figures at polling units.

The election will feature 14 candidates, including incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke.
