Police Enhance Security for Osun Governorship Election

Ahead of the governorship election scheduled for Saturday, the Nigeria Police Force has announced significant security measures in Osun State. On Friday, Force Public Relations Officer Okokon Iniedu stated that helicopters, drones, and Mobile Police personnel would be deployed statewide to ensure a safe and credible election.

Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu directed that measures be taken to protect lives and property, emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy towards vote buying. Iniedu detailed that aerial surveillance had already begun, with personnel assigned to polling units and strategic locations.

Each of the over 3,700 polling units will have four unarmed police officers present. Additionally, two units of armed Mobile Police personnel will support the Independent National Electoral Commission, and covert operatives will gather intelligence to address any emerging threats.

The police have conducted security threat assessments across all 30 local government areas to inform personnel deployment.
