IGP Disu Warns of Violence Ahead of Osun Election

On Friday, October 20, 2023, Inspector General of Police Tunji Disu visited Osun State, expressing alarm over the recent surge in violence ahead of the upcoming governorship election. Disu disclosed that at least 20 people had allegedly lost their lives in the state over the past few months.

During a meeting at the Osun State Police Command headquarters in Osogbo, he warned political actors against turning the electoral process violent and assured residents that adequate security arrangements would be in place to guarantee peaceful elections. Disu noted that the police had received numerous complaints involving members of different political parties.

He also revealed that certain suspects were allegedly being shielded inside the government house, raising concerns about the involvement of political figures in criminal activities. Governor Ademola Adeleke responded by emphasizing his administration's commitment to peace and stability in the state, declaring that there would be no tolerance for criminal activities.
