IGP Deploys DIG for Osun Governorship Election Security

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has announced the deployment of Deputy Inspector-General of Police Ishyaku Mohammed to Osun State to coordinate police operations for the upcoming governorship election scheduled for August 15. This deployment, communicated through a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, is part of the Nigeria Police Force’s strategy to enhance security and ensure a credible electoral process.

DIG Mohammed will oversee the police component of the election security arrangement and work with other security agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security. He will be supported by an Assistant Inspector-General of Police and a Commissioner of Police, who will be assigned to the three senatorial districts in Osun State.

The police have implemented measures to protect voters, electoral officials, and election materials. The Inspector-General warned against actions that could disrupt the election, including ballot snatching and voter intimidation, and reiterated the prohibition of armed escorts at polling units.
