15,000 Police Deployed for Osun Governorship Election Security

The Nigeria Police Force has deployed over 15,000 police operatives in Osun State for the upcoming governorship election, with a Deputy Inspector-General of Police coordinating the security operations. CSP Anietie Iniedu, the Force Public Relations Officer, announced that preparations began three weeks prior to the election.

Aerial surveillance will be conducted using helicopters and drones, which have already arrived in Osogbo, the state capital. Each of the 30 local government areas will have a unit of the Police Mobile Force, comprising approximately 60 personnel, to enhance security.

Additionally, two units of armed mobile policemen are stationed at the Independent National Electoral Commission headquarters in Osogbo. The Army will restrict movement into Osun State starting midnight on Saturday, allowing only essential and security personnel, as well as voters.

Iniedu urged parents to advise their children against electoral offences, warning of legal consequences for actions such as vote-buying and ballot-box snatching.
