Protests in Oyo State Over Kidnapped Schoolchildren

Protests have erupted in Oyo State over the abduction of 39 schoolchildren and seven teachers, including Mr. Rachael Alamu, the principal of Community High School in Esiel.

The kidnappings occurred on May 15, when armed men targeted three schools in the Ogbomoso area. In response to the crisis, the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has ordered all public primary and secondary school teachers across Oyo State to embark on an indefinite strike starting June 1.

The protests, which have drawn thousands of residents in Ibadan, are demanding the immediate release of the kidnapped individuals. The situation has raised significant concerns regarding security in the region, as the abduction follows a series of coordinated attacks by heavily armed men.
