Osun Youths Demand Power Restoration from IBEDC

Residents of Boripe Local Government Area, organized by the Nigerian Youth Congress, protested at the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) office in Osogbo due to prolonged blackouts affecting several communities. They issued a seven-day ultimatum for the restoration of stable power supply, citing that the erratic electricity supply has disrupted daily life and crippled economic activities.

Ham Oyetunji, a coordinator for the group, expressed that the persistent power outages have created serious hardships for residents, including traders and students. The community has been forced to rely on alternative energy sources, increasing operational costs for small businesses.

The protest escalated last week, with youths marching to the IBEDC office to register their grievances, chanting solidarity songs and demanding better electricity supply. Despite heavy security presence, the protest remained peaceful.

In response, IBEDC attributed the situation to reduced gas supply affecting power generation nationwide, leading to increased load shedding and instability in electricity supply.
