Otti Approves NOUN Study Center in Aba for Distance Learning

On Tuesday, Abia State Governor Alex Otti approved the establishment of a National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) study center in Aba, emphasizing the importance of distance learning in the evolving educational landscape. During a meeting with a delegation from NOUN led by Vice Chancellor Prof. Uduma Orji Uduma at the Government House in Umuahia, Otti noted that the shift towards virtual learning is essential as the world increasingly adopts digital platforms.

He highlighted that NOUN has been a pioneer in distance education for decades and that the establishment of the Aba center is a strategic move to enhance educational access in the state. Otti directed relevant agencies to commence work on upgrading existing facilities in Umuahia and to support the development of the Aba center.

He also mentioned that the state government has committed 20 percent of its annual budget to the education sector over the past three years and plans to commission three smart schools soon. Prof. Uduma's visit aimed to strengthen collaboration with the state government, particularly in expanding access to open distance learning.
