Otti Pursues Global Certification for Abia Hospitals

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State is actively seeking global certification for three hospitals: the Abia State University Teaching Hospital in Aba, Amachara Specialist Hospital in Umuahia, and Umunnato Specialist Hospital. These facilities are currently undergoing reconstruction and upgrades to transform them into modern referral centers across the state.

On Monday, Otti met with Clare Omatsey, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of JNCI, who briefed him on the progress of the ongoing redesign and reconstruction efforts aimed at achieving JCI certification, which is recognized as a global benchmark for healthcare quality, patient safety, and operational standards. Otti expressed satisfaction with the work done so far and noted the administrative restructuring at the Abia State University Teaching Hospital (ABSUTH) to improve efficiency.

He emphasized the need to avoid delays in documentation and assured that necessary approvals would be expedited. Additionally, Otti highlighted the establishment of centralized advanced radiography services at ABSUTH to maximize efficiency and impact, while Omatsey commended the state government's reforms in the health sector.
