Otti Announces Employment, Scholarships for First-Class Graduates

On Friday, during the 30th and 32nd combined convocation ceremony of Abia State University, Governor Alex Otti announced significant initiatives for first-class graduates. He approved automatic employment and postgraduate scholarships at the doctoral level for these graduates, contingent upon completing the National Youth Service Corps.

The scholarships will be available at public universities of their choice within Nigeria, provided they have a cumulative grade point average of at least 4.25. Otti also disclosed that N200 million has been earmarked to support 100 graduates with innovative business ideas, particularly in agriculture, ICT, and clean energy, with proposals due by April 30, 2026.

The governor congratulated the overall best graduate, Oluchi Etumsi, who received a cash gift of N5 million. He reiterated his administration's commitment to education, which he views as critical for societal development, and announced plans to reconstruct the university's infrastructure, including new faculties and hostels.
