Governor Otu Mourns Students Killed in Road Accident

Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State expressed profound grief following a tragic road accident that resulted in the deaths of three students and a staff member from the University of Cross River State. The accident occurred on Friday night along the Calabar-Itu Highway when a coaster bus conveying students collided with a truck in the Odukpani Local Government Area.

Among the deceased were Solomon Uya, the Director of Sports, Favour Darlington, the Faculty President of Chemistry, and Anthony Arikpo, a staff member who was driving the vehicle. The governor described the incident as devastating, noting the immense sorrow it cast over the state and the loss of promising young lives.

He extended condolences to the families of the victims and the university community, emphasizing that the state stands in solidarity with them during this painful time. The governor also mentioned that the injured survivors are currently receiving treatment, and police investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the crash, with the truck driver having fled the scene.
