Otu Calls for Airport Upgrade Ahead of AfSNET Conference

On Wednesday, Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu called for a stronger partnership between the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and the Cross River State Government to improve airport facilities and flight efficiency in preparation for the 6th African Sub-Sovereign Governments Network Investment Conference (AfSNET), set for November 12-14, 2026. During a courtesy visit from FAAN's Governing Board, led by Chairman Alhaji Umar Abdullahi Ganduje, Otu emphasized the need for upgrades at the Margaret Ekpo International Airport to accommodate an expected influx of approximately 2,000 visitors from 19 African countries.

He highlighted the importance of the airport as part of the state’s tourism and investment infrastructure, stating that the VIP International Lounge should be activated and upgraded to meet international standards. Otu stressed that the airport's facilities must align with the anticipated number and quality of visitors to ensure a positive first impression.
