Tinubu's NEC Approves Major Reforms for NYSC Scheme

The Federal Executive Council, chaired by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, approved a comprehensive reform of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme during a meeting held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, announced that the reforms include a full review of the NYSC to align it with Nigeria's current realities and developmental priorities.

Established in 1973 in the aftermath of the Nigerian Civil War, the NYSC was created to foster national unity by deploying graduates for one year of national service. Over the past 53 years, the scheme has significantly contributed to bringing together young Nigerians from diverse ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, thereby strengthening national cohesion.

However, the passage of time has necessitated reforms to meet the changing needs and expectations of the country.
