Borno APC Aspirant Advocates for Women's Political Inclusion

Yakaka Alkali, a 45-year-old politician and aspirant for the Borno State House of Assembly representing Magumeri Local Government Area, has called for increased participation of women in politics to prevent men from occupying positions as chairpersons of women's affairs committees. Speaking exclusively to Punch in Maiduguri, she emphasized the importance of gender balance in the House and the need to protect the interests of women and children.

Alkali expressed confidence in emerging victorious in the APC primaries, where she competes against two male candidates, including the current lawmaker. She criticized the current chairman of the House Committee on Women Affairs for being a man, highlighting the absence of women in such crucial roles.

Alkali praised Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum for his commitment to women's inclusion in politics and stated that the APC has provided significant support for women, reducing nomination fees for women and people with disabilities to N2.5 million. She believes that encouraging women to participate will lead to a more balanced political atmosphere.
