Traditional Ruler Confronts Tinubu Over Kanu's Detention

During a recent summit, Lawrence Agubuzu, a traditional ruler from Enugu State, directly confronted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu about the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Agubuzu expressed dissatisfaction with the President's absence during significant speeches and emphasized the emotional turmoil surrounding Kanu's imprisonment, which is set to last until November 2025.

He criticized Ooni Adeyeye Ogunwusi for planning to honor Sunday Igboho, a Yoruba nation agitator, questioning the legitimacy of such actions while Kanu remains incarcerated. Agubuzu's remarks resonated with the audience, reflecting a broader sentiment among South-East youths who view their leaders as sell-outs.

He urged Tinubu to either release Kanu or facilitate his return to Kenya or London, highlighting the controversial circumstances of Kanu's arrest in June 2021. Agubuzu's passionate plea underscored the growing frustration and disillusionment among traditional rulers and the youth in the South-East regarding political leadership.
