Monarch Urges Tinubu to Release Nnamdi Kanu at Summit

During the 2026 National Traditional Religious Leaders Summit held at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja, Dr. Lawer Agubuzu, a royal high ambassador from Enugu State, called on President Bola Tinubu to release Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Agubuzu expressed concern over Kanu's imprisonment, which followed his arrest in Kenya during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari. Kanu was sentenced to life imprisonment by a Federal High Court last year and is currently held in maximum security prison in Sokoto.

Agubuzu warned that keeping Kanu incarcerated would lead to increased unrest among the youth in the Southeast. He also referenced the Ooni's potential plans to honor Sunday Igboho, a figure in the Southwest, and urged the President to consider the pain caused by Kanu's situation.

The summit aimed to discuss the role of traditional and religious leaders in advancing Nigeria's health sector and fostering community involvement.
