Over 80% of ISIS Operations Now in West Africa

A report by PeacePro, issued on Tuesday, reveals that over 80% of ISIS operations are now concentrated in West Africa, particularly within the Sahel region. The organization's Executive Director, Abdulrazaq Hamzat, based this assessment on a comparative analysis of global incident data obtained from open-source intelligence.

The report indicates a significant geographic shift in extremist activities, with a notable decline in operations in traditional ISIS strongholds in Iraq and Syria. Instead, attacks in West Africa, especially in the Lake Chad Basin and the wider Sahel corridor, have increased.

PeacePro emphasizes that the rise of Nigerian fighters within ISIS-linked command structures signals a growing threat. The organization calls for the Nigerian government to spearhead efforts to mobilize a coordinated international response to this escalating threat, advocating for enhanced intelligence sharing and deeper cooperation with international partners to unify offensive actions against extremist groups operating in the region.
