Oba Haastrup Seeks More Time in Coronation Suit

Oba Haastrup, the 41st Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, has pleaded for more time to file a preliminary objection in a legal suit challenging his coronation. The suit was brought by the Arimoro family, who allege that the selection process violated established traditions and customs of Ijesaland.

The Osun State High Court, presided over by Justice J.M. Agboola, has adjourned the proceedings to March 25, 2026, with the trial set to commence on April 29, 2026.

Justice Agboola warned against unnecessary delays in the case, emphasizing the importance of timely legal proceedings. Taiwo Kupolati, the counsel for the claimants, expressed optimism that the preliminary objection would be heard on the next adjourned date.

The Arimoro family, represented by Prince Kayod Michael Arimoro and others, continues to pursue the matter legally, asserting that the coronation process did not align with Ijesaland's traditions.
