St Andrews Tops UK University Rankings, Ousting Oxbridge

The University of St Andrews has secured the top position in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2027, with the School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) in second place and Imperial College London in third. Oxford University dropped from fourth to fifth place, while Cambridge University maintained its fourth position.
This marks only the second occurrence in the guide's 33-year history where neither Oxford nor Cambridge is in the top three. Zoe Thomas, the guide's author, noted that St Andrews excelled across all metrics, including high entry standards, and praised its distinctive undergraduate experience.
St Andrews was also named University of the Year 2027 after climbing three places from sixth the previous year. Professor Dame Sally Mapstone, principal and vice-chancellor of St Andrews, welcomed the ranking and emphasized the university's strengths in teaching and research.
Helen Davies, editor of the guide, acknowledged the financial challenges facing universities and the tough graduate market.
