Oxford Names Prof. Fatima Kyari 2026 Visiting Fellow

The University of Oxford has appointed Prof. Fatima Kyari, the registrar and chief executive officer of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), as the 2026 Aig-Imoukhuede Visiting Fellow. This fellowship, announced by the Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation, will take place at Oxford’s Blavatnik School of Government from September 2026 for six months.

Kyari's research will focus on expanding medical education, strengthening the health workforce, and improving public-sector reforms in Nigeria. The fellowship aims to equip public-sector leaders with knowledge to address critical policy challenges.

Kyari joins a notable list of previous fellows, including Professor Attahiru Jega and Justice Georgina Wood. Her work at the MDCN involves tackling healthcare workforce shortages and other challenges.

Ofovwe Aig-Imoukhuede, Executive Vice Chair of the Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation, praised Kyari as a model of public-sector leadership. Kyari expressed her honor in being selected and the opportunity to examine Nigeria’s medical education and health workforce systems from a broader perspective.
