Oyebamiji meets Tinubu after losing Osun election to Adeleke

President Bola Tinubu received Bola Oyebamiji, the All Progressives Congress candidate who ran in last weekend's Osun State governorship election, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. Tinubu's spokesperson confirmed the encounter on Friday, which occurred several days following Oyebamiji's electoral loss to incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party.

Results from the election demonstrated Adeleke's strength with 511,067 votes against Oyebamiji's 444,815. Adeleke captured 19 of the state's 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji prevailed in 11 councils.

For the APC, this defeat marked a considerable blow in a state where party strategists had anticipated retaining control. Following his discussion with the president, Oyebamiji conveyed to journalists that he was still reviewing electoral records rather than conceding defeat.

He explained his ongoing examination of the official results to reporters after the presidential meeting. Additionally, the candidate voiced alarm regarding incidents where APC members reportedly suffered violence, urging all residents to maintain peaceful behavior.

Oyebamiji's visit came after a preceding meeting between Adeleke and the president, during which the governor presented his Certificate of Return. Such consultations with the sitting president represent customary protocol following significant elections, regardless of whether the visitor won or lost their race.
