Oyedeji Warns After D’Tigress' World Cup Exit

Olumide Oyedeji, captain of D’Tigers and a board member of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, issued a warning regarding Nigeria's standing in women's basketball after D’Tigress' disappointing performance at the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup held in Berlin. The team was eliminated after losing all three matches in Group B, culminating in a heavy 111-56 defeat to France.

Oyedeji described the early exit as a "wake-up call" and emphasized the need for urgent attention to Nigeria's basketball development to prevent other African nations from closing the competitive gap. D’Tigress entered the tournament as the reigning African champions, having secured their fifth consecutive AfroBasket title in 2025, and made history at the Paris 2024 Olympics by being the first African team to reach the quarter-finals of the women’s basketball event.

Oyedeji called for a review of Nigeria's preparation and development programs to build a stronger future for upcoming players.
