D’Tigress Fall to Spain 83-58 in World Cup Warm-Up

Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, faced a significant defeat against Spain, losing 83-58 in a warm-up match on Friday at the Santiago Martín Arena in Tenerife, Spain. This match was part of their preparations for the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Germany.

D’Tigress initially performed well, maintaining competitiveness through a strong start, but Spain's second-half performance was dominant, outscoring Nigeria 47-18. Spain's Iyana Martín led the scoring with 15 points, while Andrea Vilaró contributed 12 points, including four three-pointers.

Head coach Rena Wakama viewed the match as an opportunity to assess her players and identify areas needing improvement. Prior to this match, D’Tigress had completed a three-game exhibition series in China, concluding with a victory after two losses.

Upcoming fixtures include matches against Belgium, Mali, and Puerto Rico, which will further aid in their preparation. D’Tigress will compete in Group B of the World Cup, facing South Korea, Hungary, and France, starting September 4.
