D’Tigress End World Cup with Heavy Loss to France

D’Tigress ended their FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup campaign with a significant defeat, losing 111-56 to France in their final group game held in Berlin on Monday. The Nigerian team was outplayed throughout the match, falling behind 31-13 after the first quarter and 65-26 at halftime.

They managed to match France in the final quarter, scoring 17 points each. Grace Efosa-Aguebor was the top scorer for Nigeria with 15 points, while Gabby Williams led France with 25 points.

This defeat followed earlier losses to South Korea (99-81) and Hungary (71-67), resulting in D’Tigress finishing the tournament without a win. The team arrived at the World Cup as the reigning FIBA Women’s AfroBasket champions and had previously reached the quarter-finals at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Concerns have been raised regarding the team's preparation, particularly due to head coach Rena Wakama's late arrival just four days before their opening game, after the team had already completed significant pre-tournament activities in the United States, China, and Spain.
