Oyedele Takes Office as Nigeria's New Finance Minister

Oyedele has officially taken office as Nigeria's Finance Minister, succeeding Wale Edun, following a formal handover on Thursday evening. The transition was confirmed by the Ministry of Finance, which stated that the process was completed within the timeline set by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In his inaugural remarks, Oyedele committed to building on existing reforms and prioritizing tangible economic results, with a focus on fiscal discipline and improved economic performance across key sectors. He expressed readiness to collaborate with the ministry's workforce to enhance service delivery.

The new minister acknowledged Edun's contributions to Nigeria's economic reform agenda and thanked President Tinubu for the opportunity to serve in this strategic role. Permanent Secretaries Raymond Omachi and Moham Danjuma assured full cooperation with the ministry's workforce.

However, the official note highlighted challenges, particularly regarding budget implementation and funding constraints affecting the ministry and its agencies, including outstanding obligations related to pensions and contractors.
