Oyedele Urges Customs to Enhance Cargo Clearance Efficiency

On September 7, Taiwo Oyedele, the Finance Minister and Chairman of the Nigeria Customs Service Board, addressed the need for the Nigeria Customs Service to eliminate bottlenecks at the ports and expedite cargo clearance. This directive was issued during his first Board meeting at the Customs headquarters in Abuja since assuming the role of Chairman.

Oyedele emphasized the importance of improving port efficiency and establishing measurable standards to evaluate performance against global benchmarks. He called for the development of clear key performance indicators (KPIs) and the setting of world-class operational standards.

Oyedele stated that the true measure of reform should be based on the experiences of businesses operating in Nigeria, rather than government claims. He insisted that companies should experience faster and easier trade processes, making business operations in Nigeria more enjoyable.
